Bullies are a problem for many kids. Being bullied can make kids feel really lonely, scared or even sick.
Kids who are bullied on can have trouble concentrating on their schoolwork because they are so worried about getting picked on the next time they go to the cafeteria, step out into the hall or get on the bus home.
Bullies are a problem for everyone-not just the kids that are being picked on. Bullying brings fear, stress and violence into school and has a negative affect on everyone.
So, what should you do if you or someone you know are being bullied? The first thing you should do is immediately let your teacher or counselor know what is going on so that they can step in before the bullying escalates any further.
Bullies are often people who are insecure and need to pick on someone else so that they can have power over another person. Often times, just standing up to a bully will get them to stop. It is important to stand up for yourself, but never bully back. If someone is teasing you or another kid, tell the bully, "No! Stop it!" in a loud voice and then walk away. Fighting the bully is never a good idea because you will probably end up getting in trouble too.
Remember to stay calm and confident when dealing with a bully. Once the bully realizes that they can't get away with picking on someone, they'll stop.
